Want to solve a problem that we all have at times quickly, and easily? We all have the need to level a tripod. We solve this in a number of ways. Some use the level on the tripod, if available. Some use a bubble level in the hot shoe of the camera and some a leveling base.
All work and in someway and are sometimes the solution. However, at times I run into this situation. I'm away from my my base and hiking with a light weight tripod that doesn't have a level built into it. For weight concerns I don't have a leveling base mounted in this situation and there are just times when I actually use the hot shoe for it's intended use, a flash unit.
With the growing popularity of panoramic stitching, a level tripod to start with is a must and those of us that have had trouble with the hot shoe from repeated use of a bubble level might want to consider this quick and easy solution.

The quick release plate with bubble level from Acratech INC
A bubble level built right into a quick release plate. Seems like a natural and it is! Simply insert this light weight plate into the QR clamp and level the head, lock it down and replace the plate with your camera or lens. Quick and easy!
This new little jewel from Acratech has what is needed. First and foremost it's accurate! This is not a given for all bubble levels. They are not all created equal and those that are not precise can be worse than not using one at all! This one is also very small, about 2 inches long, and as mentioned, very light weight. Placed in my shooting vest, I'm now never without the ability to level ANYTHING quickly and easily.
