| Ghost like images from South Coyote Buttes |
Southwest photographer and host of the DVD series Steve Kossack: Photographing the Great American Landscape will lead this workshop. It's size and design will lend itself the flexibility to travel and photograph the available light and color of this exciting area during our 5-day shoot.
Found in the heart of deserts southwest. This magical area surrounds the town of Page Arizona. Lake Powell and Glen Canyon dam are near by. Page will serve as our base and we will spend our 4 nights there. It is a full service city and everything needed for our comfort and travel can be found there. It is approximately a 5 hour drive from Phoenix.
This is the "E" ticket of our grand trip. Reached by a 6 mile roundtrip hike (it's more than a long walk ....... but not a great deal more) with gains and losses in elevation and some sand. You must be willing to spend the entire day hiking and shooting and be in reasonable physical condition. This jewel is ever changing in different light and season. You've long waited and wished for your chance to see and photograph here, and now you will.

The magic of light and color in upper Antelope Canyon In the 80's we all wondered where these magnificent photographs were coming from. Now we know. Now you will have your chance to image it yourself. A true wonder of the world. It's not a cave and it's not exactly canyon like. You won't soon forget the experience here.
A completely different experience awaits us in Lower Antelope Canyon. This one is a lot more open and its features are a lot more exposed. We will be climbing up and down and wondering how they did this with photographic equipment (or anything else) before the steel ladders were built a few years ago. Time is unlimited here and you may go though your entire photo kit!
One of the most spectacular views in the entire southwest is The Colorado River at Horseshoe Bend The Colorado River makes a Horseshoe Bend just below Glen Canyon dam here. You will be some 1500 feet above the river on the cliffs trying to capture the seen before you. Simply breathtaking is the only way to describe it.
This location is not easy to find and has almost 30 miles of dirt road to reach, but it's worth every minute. Moonscapes on the way make this Overlook of Padre Bay on Lake Powell an awesome sight! It will be one of our highlights as a sunset shoot.
* It's for photographers and nature lovers of all levels. * It's a photography workshop. It's a day long hike. It's a weekend getaway. * It's a traditional workshop. * It's for you if: * You like working in the field from sunrise to sunset. * You want to learn about landscape location and light * You want to learn about equipment and strategies used in landscape photography * You like traveling with like-minded people, and making images and new friends.
This is a FIELD photographic expedition and workshop. There is not much "down time". We work in the field from well before sunrise until after sunset each day. Hiking is involved and you should be in reasonable physical condition. Basically, if you want to experience these wonders, you can!
Clearing winter storm on the plateau
Only 6 places! This workshop is small by design. It will allow for ALL levels of photographic experience. There will be no lectures or product endorsements. Personal instruction will be available at all times. The opportunity to photograph and share with the group will always be present. A Print discussions will be a part of our workshop, as will as all aspects of field landscape photography.
No one can predict weather in the Southwest, especially in winter. Cold nights and cool days make for great hiking conditions. We are hopeful of snow on the ground and passing storms but please remember that there is no guarantee. This is an expedition. Our travel may be restricted by impassable roads. Some of our destinations only permit a specific day for our use. If we can't get to the trailhead or roads prohibit travel, we can't go! We will make adjustments to our schedule as need be.
This trip can be done in any format and at any photographic level. Backpacks will need to be light and compact for hiking. A tripod is a must. Both film and digital shooters welcome.

You will need 5 days. 2 of them are weekend days.
Please Remember Weather and climate is unpredictable. We may be subject to road closures but they are infrequent. Please remember that our day at the Wave is subject to road closure also and an alternate shoot will be substituted if we can not get to the trailhead. We will be traveling in 4-wheel drive SUV's and do not expect weather conditions to be of concern. However, anything is possible. Bring wet protection clothes, smiles, lots of film and/or bytes. Our days will begin well before sunrise and end well after sunset!

The cost of this trip is U.S. $2095. This includes all transportation to and from all shooting locations as well as pick up and drop off in Phoenix. You are responsible for your own travel arrangements to and from Phoenix. Your Page Arizona accommodations are included (Double occupancy - 2 persons to a room, single supplement $350). Although we will most likely eat our meals together, sometimes a break is nice. Therefore, you will be responsible for the cost of your own meals. Bring film and /or bytes & food money and we'll take care of the rest. The workshop payment of $2095 will be required when you register. If you need to cancel for any reason, a full refund (less $200) will be made, but only if a replacement for you can be found in time. If we have to cancel the trip for any reason you will receive a full refund. With only 6 places available this workshop is bound to sell out quickly.
